As Easter approaches, we know that all of our cute little tackers (kids) will be eagerly awating a visit from the infamous Easter Bunny who will hide yummy delicious Easter Eggs all over the place, which they will take great delight in running around everywhere on a desperate hunt for these eggs to collect and either scoff down, or hoard, to then make their siblings and friends jealous, that they still have more eggs than them. We also know about Easter’s religious heritage, but why on earth does an Easter Bunny delivering eggs, represent Easter? Where did the Easter Bunny begin and why? Where did the Easter Bunny come from? These are the questions of “the days of our lives”

Well to get to the bottom of this highly important life changing question, we did some research and found out that there are a few theories but all based around the same idea. Back in medieval times in Germany, when gods and goddesses were worshipped, there was a goddess called Eostre, who was the goddess of fertility. Her sacred symbol was a bunny, (due to their energetic breeding, they traditionally symbolized fertility). In many pre-Christian societies, eggs held associations with spring and new life. Early Christians adapted these beliefs, making the egg the symbol of the resurrection and the empty shell a metaphor for Jesus’ tomb. So fertility and new life is what Easter is all about… Jesus being resurrected.. the beginning of his new life. So what better a way to represent Easter than with a Bunny delivering Eggs. Mind blown!!!

Why Do We Hunt For Easter Eggs

Ok so now we know why there is an Easter Bunny and what the eggs mean. As far as the Easter egg hunt goes, this dates back to a German Lutheran tradition, where the Easter Bunny, or Easter Hare as he was originally known, would reward all the children who had been good, by bringing a basket of brightly painted or ornately decorated eggs. They would be hidden around the house and garden and the kids would set out on their hunt to find their gifted eggs to devour. There are many theories circulating around the web about why the eggs were painted or decorated in the first place, but let’s just leave that and get on with how you can make your kids Easter egg hunt a blast.
