Depending on your age, and this post will certainly give mine away now, you might remember the original Disney Aladdin movie way back in 1992 starring the great late Robin Williams as the Genie… well i should re-phrase that to say, how could you forget Robin Williams as the big blue Genie! His lightening fast humour and improv had us in stitches as we watched in awe, the story that unfolded in this fantastical romantic story.
As all movies are constantly being re-made, so has Aladdin, but not as a cartoon this time. With Will Smith in blue CGI playing the Genie, he certainly has a big personality to fill.
Ok so let’s talk characters without going through the whole cast…just the most popular
There’s Aladdin, also known as Prince Ali Ababwa, he’s the main character. He was a “street rat” of Agrabah, but was also loyal, mischevious and kind hearted. He wore a red fez, a purple vest with no shirt, and baggy pants with a yellow patch. Also shoes. He married Princess Jasmine to which his “Prince Ali” outfit became a white suit with gold trimming and a cape, gold boots and a belt. He wore a turban and despite his usually ragged appearance Aladdin is a pretty good looking guy, always attracting the attention of the ladies around town.
She’s an independent rebellious young princess from Agrabah, a Middle Eastern kingdom ruled by her father. Jasmine knows what her future queen obligations are but because of outdated laws, she’s forbidden to go beyond the palace. Refusing to be treated like a sheltered object, Jasmine wants to break the confines and live a free life and make her own choices.
Jasmine‘s most commonly chosen outfit is a blue cropped off the shoulder top and matching pants, and gold slip on shoes. Her hair is tied in a ponytail held together by two blue hair bands or ribbons. She wears a blue headband with a blue gem in the centre. To complete her outfit, two gold hoop earrings that dangle from her ears and a matching necklace.
Jafar pretends to be charming, but really is the contemptuous power hungry second most powerful authority in Agrabah, answering only to the Sultan. Manipulating him with his magical snake headed staff. He also has a sarcastic and devious pet parrot, Iago.
He wears black robes over a red gown. The shoulders of his outer robe are pointed and curved upward, connected to a long, billowing black cape with a red interior. His shoes are brown. A red sash is tied around his waist. He sports a distinctive black turban, with a gem in the centre with a feather just above it.He also has a twisted, black goatee and faint mustache, as well as grey eyeliner.
Genie is easy going, friendly and full of life. Always bursting with positive energy. His energy is a direct result of his years of isolation, which left him teaming with vigor, so whenever he’s given a chance at freedom, his first instinct is to go crazy with his powers by cracking jokes and entertaining whoever is around him.
He’s a muscular blue genie with pointy ears, a hooked nose, curly black beard and thick black eyebrows. He sports a black ponytail with a gold bead that holds it. Gold cuffs on his wrists and an earring in one ear. A red sash is worn around his waist and his legs are usually misty. He wears red shoes sometimes too.
